NJSACC: New Jersey's Afterschool & Out-of-School-Time Professional Network mourn the loss of New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor, Sheila Y. Oliver.
Amongst her many accomplishments, Lieutenant Governor Oliver became the first African-American woman in state history to serve as Assembly Speaker in 2010 and served as a staunch champion of education and juvenile justice. She also served as a member of the East Orange Board of Education and positively influenced many youth as a college professor across the state.
Today, we mourn the loss of a fierce advocate, leader and educator to all. This loss leaves a tremendous void in our state and in the hearts of the staff at NJSACC. We send our deepest condolences to her family, those she served and all that loved her, at this difficult time. Her impact extended beyond legislation and will continue to be felt for generations.
