NJSACC launches its winter Professional Development Series for #AfterschoolNJ

NJSACC: The Statewide Network for New Jersey’s Afterschool Communities has been very busy preparing a full menu of professional development opportunities for the winter. We encourage you to take a look at each of the following offerings and then register to join us using the links provided below (where available):

Is it Fair? - Thu Jan 5, 2023 | 10am - 11:30am

Is fairness about everyone getting the same things, or providing individuals with what they need to succeed? How do we deal with the feelings that may arise when some get the help they need, while others don’t? Join us for this training that will explore these questions, differentiate equality and equity, and outline strategies to help school age staff decide when to encourage sameness, and when to promote opportunities for success. Best for staff supervisors.

 

Refocus Your Lens - Wed Jan 11, 2023 | 6:30pm - 7:30pm

There are many ways to look at behavior. In this training, participants will explore four common lenses used to view and think about behavior, focusing on how to view behavior as communication and accurately interpret the messages school age youth send with their behavior. Appropriate for all levels of staff.

  2. On the next screen click Register in the gray bar that asks if you are a new user.
  3. On the next screen fill in all the required information.  It will ask you what you are requesting approval for.  Please select the option that best describes your position.  For afterschool providers either Director, ECE Assistant Teacher or ECE Teacher will be the best match.  Then click Register in the lower right-hand corner.
  4. You should receive an email to activate your account.

Strength Based Supervision - Wed Feb 1, 2023 | 10am - 11:30am

This workshop will focus on enhancing supervisory staff’s skills in supporting staff, as well as improving overall disability inclusion and behavior support practices in the school age program. Supervisors will explore the Individual Practice Development (IPD) theory to determine staff’s current level of understanding and skill regarding inclusion practices and will use the KIT Coaching Pyramid to help staff to develop a plan of action and inclusion supports for the school age youth in their care.

 

Behavior Support Techniques - Wed Feb 8, 2023 | 6:30pm - 7:30pm

The focus of this training is to unpack the WHY of behavior. Participants will practice identifying antecedents to behavior and determine what consequences shape behavior. The session includes a discussion about selecting strategies to address the antecedents, which helps children make positive behavior changes. Appropriate for all levels of staff.

Realistic Supports - Wed Mar 1, 2023 | 10am - 11:30am

Do youth seem disconnected, disinterested, or discouraged? Are you searching for meaningful and engaging ways to support them? This training explains how to use the pyramid support model to develop realistic and individualized supports for youth in school-age programs. Best for staff supervisors.
